Our last port before crossing the Atlantic was Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. It is a larger city than Santa Cruz de Tenerife, so we definitely got our steps in. But we did start off with a 1 hour tour by an electric tuk tuk. We saw some great views and it worked great to get us to the center of the old city. Santa Cruz de Tenerife ‐ Apr 22, 2025

Tenerife was our first port in the Canary Islands of Spain. We had a very animated guide for a walking tour of the old city. We explored a beautiful central market. A little bit later we stopped to eat at a sidewalk cafe and tried 3 kinds of croquettes (ham, fish and calamari black from squid ink), and Queso Asada. It was all good. Then we took a tram up to La Laguna, a Spanish Colonial gem.

Casablanca, Morocco ‐ Apr 20, 2025

Another very busy port! We arrived on Easter Sunday morning. We dressed for church and headed into town for a service in English at St. John's of Casablanca, local Anglican Church. It was a cute, older church filled with parishioners who seemed to be a mix of ex-pats from England, America and southern Africa. They were very welcoming and we are glad we went. After the service we had a surprise invitation from a fellow cruiser, to join him for lunch at Rick's Cafe (styled after the movie Casabla [...]
nca). Both the restaurant and the food were amazing and beyond expectation. After lunch we walked to the 3rd largest mosque in the world, Hassan II. We did a 1 hour+ tour of the mosque that was built almost 30 years ago. The size and the beauty of it were jaw dropping. The cab driver taking us back to the port did a great job getting us through the police/riot squad barricade that was set up at the entrance to the port in response to large protests against arms being sent to Isreal.

After a needed and restful sea day, we arrived in Cadiz (pronounced by locals as "Caddy"). We booked a 2 hour walking tour of the city which turned out to be fantastic. The guide share interesting facts and trivia about the city and it's history as we made our way around the old town section of this almost virtual island. It was Holy Saturday, and Cadiz celebrates with costumed and ornate processions through the city streets.

Barcelona ‐ Apr 17, 2025

We took a cab to Jerry and Terry's (our friends who moved here) apartment. It was so great seeing them and meeting their new dog, Viva. After a very nice breakfast of fresh fruit and croissants, we took a cab to see tennis at the Barcelona Open. Jerry picked great seats for us months ago and the weather could not have been nicer. To top it all off, we got to see Carlos Alcaraz play and win in his quarter final match. The day passed too quickly and we had to say goodbye to J & T and make our way [...]

Marseille, France ‐ Apr 16, 2025

This was a huge port! We visited the Cathedral (very impressive), also an area nearby, know for its graffiti art, and a historic complex that was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is called La Vieille Charité, and was established to house and care for the poor and homeless. Then we walked over to a large plaza by the old port where we saw two museums, very popular bases on the long lines to buy tickets.

Nice

After lunch in Monte Carlo, we took the train to Nice. Walked and explored this city until reaching the seashore. Stopped for a drink on the beach to soak it all in. Walked to a main shopping street then back to train to return to Villefranche.

It was a short train ride to Monte Carlo and then WOW. The casino building is beautiful as are the views looking out to the sea and down to the marina with numerous yachts.

Villefranche is a cute little port in the French Riviera, located between Nice and Monte Carlo. Winding and steep streets were explored a bit on the walk to the train station.

Genoa is a large city that is built on the hills surrounding the port. We took a Hop-on Hop-off Bus tour of the city and got a much better feel for the beauty and history that is here.

We sailed away from Livorno about 7 pm.
Pisa

Steve had been here before, but it was Bob's first visit. We walked about a mile from the train station towards the Cathedral. As we approached the church, the Tower of Pisa revealed itself. Pictures don't do it justice. It really was amazing to see. We did climb the 200+ steps to the top, and it felt like a Tilt-a-Whirl as you are circling around a building that is so not plumb.

Livorno

The ship docked in Livorno and we took a free shuttle into town. It was Palm Sunday, and we paid a short visit to the Cathedral and discovered that they don't use palm fronds, instead people were using what we think were olive branches. Then we walked to the train station to go to Pisa.

Ajaccio, Corsica, France ‐ Apr 12, 2025

It stayed cloudy all day but it didn’t rain. Known as the birthplace of Napoleon, there is no shortage of ties to him throughout this beautiful port. We definitely got our steps in today.

Today we said “safe travels” to Jeremy and Price, two new cruise friends. They headed back home to Montana ✈️. We spent the rest of the day exploring Civitavecchia rather than trying to do Rome in a matter of hours. The weather was beautiful again, as was the gelato we had before returning to the ship.

Valletta, Malta ‐ Apr 9, 2025

Probably the most beautiful port we have ever sailed into! Malta has a rich history of being able to defend against attacks and teaming up with countries who were the enemy of their enemies. It is currently one of the most liberal countries and a true gem to behold.

We spent the day exploring the countryside on e-Bikes. The temperatures stayed in the 40s so it put our layers to the test. One of the unusual sights we saw in towns are a part of their Lent traditions . . . hanging old woman dolls over the streets. We are still not sure why they do it.

Unfortunately, as we approached this port in the morning, the wind gusts were too strong for the ship to safely dock. So our stop was cancelled and the day became a Sea Day.

We decided to take the day off. LOL We were here in September and we enjoyed Corfu. We made today a lazy day full of reading, lounging and napping. It was necessary to have e the ship mostly to ourselves.

Souda/Chania, Crete ‐ Apr 4, 2025

Souda is the port for the city of Chania. We took a city bus from the ship into the heart of Chania, then we walked the narrow streets to the Old Venetian Port. It would be hard to take a terrible picture here. Six of us took an hour long ride on a glass bottom boat out to a little island where Steve and Price braved the chilly water to swim with fish. We had a great lunch that ended with an amazing chocolate cake, right by the harbor.

This was our first visit to Rhodes and it did not disappoint. The ship docked just outside the walled city and we explored inside the walls on foot. There was a real mix of ruins, restaurants and locally owned shops. The castle turned palace was restored starting in the 1930s, and the rooms featured ancient mosaic floors from the 3rd through 5th century that were relocated from the island of Cos. This time we stayed in the port of Kusadasi and explored what they might be most famous for . . . Genuine Fakes. Store after store proudly displaying the latest styles of high end clothing, watches and accessories from Rolex to Gucci to Louis Vuitton. So don’t look too closely at what we might be bringing back home. LOL

We were originally scheduled to go to Patmos, Greece but the Greek weather Gods said no. Instead we sailed to Heraklion on the island of Crete. We had good weather after a thunder and lightning show in the morning, and enjoyed exploring a port that was new to us. We devoured some great pastries/baklava, ice cream and some good prices on a sweater or two. Lastly, we satisfied a Mexican craving with Margaritas and chips.

Siracusa is a beautiful port, and we really enjoyed walking around the older part of the city which is a small island. The sights were very Italian and we were lucky to have such good weather.

This was our first visit to the "Rock". At the suggestion of our cruise friends, Steve and Rich, we booked an e-Bike tour to the Top of the Rock. We had sunny, cool weather, and the tour was full of new adventures like riding across the main airport runway, riding through several tunnels and going up steep narrow roadways to see caves and Barbary Apes. A very good day!

What a beautiful island and city! We had so much fun driving 4x4 buggies all over the northern part of the island on dirt and muddy roads through forests and jungle. Back in Funchal (countless tunnels to get back and forth) we strolled the city and had a nice lunch (items recommended by our ship's Sommelier from Portugal).

After 7 full days at sea, we found land this morning. The weather was sunny, 70s and windy. The water at the local beach was cool but beautiful. The city showed a mix of Portugal and French architecture. The history here dates back to the slave trade which is important to remember.

Walvis Bay, Namibia ‐ Mar 12, 2025

Walvis Bay is a very busy port for western Africa. We spent the day doing a double excursion. First we saw flamingos along the shoreline, then rode in 4x4s south along the coastal beaches (on the sand!), to where the giant sand dunes are. It was a very exciting ride both up and down the steep dunes and incredible vistas from the top. We stopped for a beachside snack with sparkling wine and 2 jackels as onlookers. Our ship stayed in Cape Town for an overnight with allowed us to do an overnight safari at Aquila Private Game Reserve (about 2 hours outside of the city). The safari resort and the safari rides (sunset and the next morning) were beyond expectation. Check out the Picture link to see some of what we saw.

Mauritius is part of the continent of Africa. Our day in Port Louis was very hot and humid and we spent the morning exploring the city’s downtown, central market and Chinatown.

Fremantle, Australia ‐ Feb 23, 2025

The ship experienced rough seas between Melbourne and Fremantle. We decided to go to Rottnest Island during this stop in Fremantle. It is a vacation spot, and tourists can only bring or rent bicycles for transportation. It is a sanctuary for a unique marsupial, called a Quokka, that is only found in this area. It's about the size of cat is mostly nocturnal. The waters surrounding the island are clear and beautifully blue.

Melbourne is a city of Trams that can easily take you all over the city. We did a return trip to Costco, some shopping in the downtown area, and returned in the evening to have a rooftop dinner and drinks with cruise friends who happened to be in town.

It was Fair Day the day we arrived in Sydney, a major kickoff to their Mardi Gras Gay Pride. We joined about 70,000 people in Victoria Park for live music, booths, food and entertainment. We finished the day at the Townie Bar, a very welcoming level bar and ate a sausage on white bread.

We booked a boat to take us across the bay to visit Larnach Castle. It’s a house that was built by a banking family in the 1800s and last sold in 1967. The current owners have restored it and developed the gardens that surround the castle. Later we took a harbor tour in hopes of seeing albatross, but none were flying for us.

We were here in 2017, but this time we explored more of the town (about 4k people). The weather was great again, we visited a local outdoor crafts market, shopped for some Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, ate some “Country Fried Chicken” from an outdoor vendor and patronized a local bakery.

Napier is one of our favorite places to visit. It's a city that was almost completely leveled by a 7.9 earthquake in 1931 and was completely rebuilt in the style of the day, Art Deco.

Our first stop in New Zealand and we revisited bothe the towns of Pahia and Russell (across the bay). We had a leisurely lunch at the Duke of Marlborough Hotel restaurant, great food, service and a very nice wine from the Marlborough region.

After we got off the ship in Suva, we walked to the Central Market in search of fresh tropical flowers to bring back to our cabin. We also did a little shopping at a grocery store for some treats to bring back for some of the crew members. A second trip off the ship led us back to Jack's, a favorite store that cruise friends, Denise and Howie, shared with us years ago. We went with our new friend Rich on an eBike ride along a great coastal path on the east coast of Kauai. Thanks for arranging this Rich! We were sorry that his Steve wasn't able to join us on this adventure. The views were stunning, and then back in the town of kapa'a, we enjoyed chocolate tasting (Hawaiian grown and created), a great Hawaiian pork lunch, and then traditional Hawaiian smoothies and Hawaiian Ice.

We spent the day, walking to Chinatown in the rain, then going to a favorite bakery for some steamed buns for Chinese New Year. Then we took a city bus to the Ala Moana Mall for a little shopping. The weather was nice so we spent a couple of hours on the sand at Waikiki Beach before going to the Sheraton Waikiki for sunset cocktails with friends from the cruise. We were lucky and got to see our bar server from 5 years ago. Locks is a bartender now.

Today we walked into San Pedro and signed the loan documents for our new house in Palm Desert. Then we met Paul and Ellen for lunch at Parker's Lighthouse in Long Beach to celebrate Ellen's Birthday. Lots of new passengers on the ship, and a raised excitement level for this World Cruise.

It was a beautiful sunny day and we walked along the Malecon (shoreside walkway), and stopped for a drink by the beach. We stopped at Costco on the way back to the ship, but only bought a hot dog and a cookie. The lines in the store we crazy long! We played some pickleball back on the ship before we sailed away.

We docked and went into town after Pickleball and breakfast. It was very warm and humid, we looked at some of the vendor booths along the beach and then walked into town and found an open barber shop for overdue haircuts. Then we shopped at a local grocery store for some snacks to give to our room steward. The ship's White Party was held on deck after dinner.

Cartagena has a beautiful, fortified, old city which we explored on foot, including the Cathedral. Then we met up with friends Isaias and Mark who happened to be visiting from England, and we had a fun Columbian lunch together. After lunch, we explored the Gethsemani neighborhood, know for it's local artists.
